It’s been almost two years since articles started circulating online regarding the World Golf Handicap System. We are now just a few months away from 2020 so we thought we would recap some of the changes
Handicaps will now be updated daily. For most of you that have a Birdie handicap this will not change but for those of you that get their handicaps updated weekly or even monthly, that is about to change.
With the new system you will be able to get a handicap with just 3 rounds of golf instead of 5. Also, the World Handicap System will take your best 8 scores of your most recent 20 instead of your best 10.
Adjusting your gross score in the past was a little complicated as it was different depending on your handicap. The WHS makes it easier by capping the maximum score as a net double bogey no matter what your handicap is.
This one may not be as much of a factor here in Thailand but it will be implemented nevertheless. Daily adjustments will be made to your score based on how other players fared on the same day on the same course.
The maximum Handicap will now go from a 36.4 to 54 for both men and women.
For those with Birdie handicaps, we will look to introduce changes to our system in late January with the rest of the world. Updates will be published as and when they take place. You do not have to do anything other than adjust your gross differently (as above) ...............so relax! We will take care of the rest
Leave your comments below, what do you think of the changes?
