Travel up the highway 331, through the pineapple fields to find this testing design, recently purchased and refurbished by the Chang Group. Previously known as Century Chonburi, designed by Nick Faldo, although he may well have disowned it, as it was let rundown condition wise. This is not the case now, with well maintained fairways, greens and bunkers. The course is at the more affordable end of the green fee range, and still currently permits 2 golfers sharing a cart.
The course features small, sloping greens which are the primary protection for the course, although they are nowhere near as fiery as in previous times. Predominantly sloping from the back to the front, so approach placement to have uphill putts is most desirable.
Each 9 has 1 short and 1 more challenging par 3, while the par 5s offer plenty of room to play as 3 shotters, while still offering the longer hitters the opportunity to take the green on. The 18th is an example of this, but leave the ball above the hole at your peril, as putting off the green is a distinct possibility.
The par 4s offer a mix of holes that require only short approaches, while there are a few that require well struck mid to long irons. Notably the 16 th , with its wide but shallow green, which may well be beyond the reach of many. All in all Pattavia offers a challenging round of golf, on a good conditioned course, at a reasonable price, about 1 hours drive from the centre of Pattaya.
