Tiger Wood’s Mum and Dad had a huge influence on his career

Tiger Woods is an American Professional Golfer and has been the most successful golfer on the planet, and he never seems to be out of the news.

He has won 14 major championships, and he is considered by many to be the best golfer of all time.

Not only has Tiger Woods won more tournaments in the history of golf than any other professional, but many of today’s golfers are now earning huge sums thanks to Tiger’s popularity.

Whenever Tiger turns up for a tournament, the gate is tripled,  the TV ratings go through the roof and that makes all the sponsors very happy too. 

However, what many people don't know is that Tiger's success comes from more than just natural talent. 

His mother, Kultida Woods, played a huge role in his development as a golfer - and as a person. 

In this article, we will explore the story of how Kultida Woods met her son's father, Earl Woods, and the rest is history.

Kutilda Woods is the legendary golfer Tiger Woods mother. 

Kultida Woods was born on September 30, 1946 in Kanchanaburi, two hours West of Bangkok Thailand.

Kanchanaburi is a well known tourist destination as the site for the Bridge over the River Kwai made famous during WWII.

Kutilda Woods  has three siblings. 

Kultida Woods, whose nickname is Tida, ancestry is a mix of Thai, Chinese and Dutch and was raised Buddhist growing up.

While growing up she took her son Tiger to Thailand several times to teach him about the traditions and his family roots.

Kultida is often seen supporting Tiger at masny of the tournaments he plays in and currently she is involved in philanthropic works for the Tiger Woods Foundation.

Who is Earl Woods?

Earl Woods was an American golfer and the father of Tiger Woods.

Earl was born in Manhattan, Kansas and served in the United States Army during the Korean War.

Earl Woods was previously a U.S. Army infantry officer who served two tours of duty in South Vietnam and eventually retired with the rank of lieutenant colonel

He was also a college baseball player.

His granddaughter, Cheyenne Woods, is also a professional golfer on the LPGA tour.

Earl Woods started his son in golf at a very early age, and coached him exclusively over his first years in the sport. Later he even published two books about the process.

Earl Woods died in 2006.

How did Kutilda Woods meet Earl Woods?

You might be wondering how a shy Thai girl Kultida Woods met and married American baseball player Earl Woods, since she was born and raised in Thailand. 

According to ESPN, the two actually encountered one another in Bangkok, Thailand.

At the time, Kultida was a civilian secretary in the United States Army office, and Earl was in uniform. 

Despite the fact that they could meet as a result of their service, they may have appeared like an odd match on paper. 

Kultida had never lived outside of Thailand, and at the time spoke very little English. 

However, love appears to have found a path since after only a few months of knowing one another, they married, and then quickly moved to Brooklyn, New York.

The couple later moved to California.

In 1972, Woods was stationed at Brooklyn's Fort Hamilton, and learned to play golf, starting at age 42, at the Dyker Beach Golf Course in Dyker Heights.

They had their first and only kid in 1975, Tiger Woods.

Unfortunately, their marriage wasn't free of problems, and according to E! News, Earl allegedly cheated on Kultida several times during their time together. 

It's clear though that they were both dedicated to Tiger, because they remained married until Earl passed away from cancer in 2006.

Eldrick Tont Woods, better known as Tiger Woods, was born on December 30, 1975, in Cypress, California. 

When Woods was a child, his father began calling him "Tiger" in honour of a fellow soldier and friend.

Woods grew up in Orange County, California, although he has returned to Thailand several times appearing on the Johnnie Walker Asian Classic which he won in 1989 at Blue Canyon golf course in Phuket.

Tiger Woods also played in the same event at Bangkok’s Thai Country Club.

He was a child prodigy who was introduced to golf before the age of two by his athletic father Earl Woods.

Tiger, encouraged by Earl, went on to win many events.

Recently Tiger Woods was inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame and Kutilda Woods was one of the guests of honour.

Tiger Woods continues to play golf at the top level, recently competing for the Masters in 2022 before fading away. He spend time with his three children who also play golf to a high standard, especially Charlie Woods who has a great junior golf record so far.
