Siam Country Club Waterside Review (2022)

Category: Golf Course Review

The course was designed by IMG Golf Course Design, one of the world-renowned golf course architects and experts in world sport and event management.

The idea was to create an 18-hole course as a more friendly play than say the Siam Country Club Old Course. IMG was given a brief to enhance the design to receive more options so that Waterside was to be aimed at the golf tourist.

At the same time, the designers made use of the natural contours with the idea of creating a natural area for crowds to view during a major tournament.

Waterside was the third course to be opened by the Siam Country Club group after the famous Old Course and then the 27-hole Plantation.

It is located between Plantation to its north and the Old Course to the east and is only 30 minutes drive out of Pattaya.

LPGA Star at the grand opening

It open back in 2014 while the Old Course was hosting the Honda LPGA Thailand and Beatriz Recari the Spanish LPGA Professional came to play a few holes for the official opening.

Its 18 holes are 7,439 yards from the back tees and a friendly 5,250 yards from the lady's tees.

They use Paspalum on the fairways and Ultra dwarf Bermuda on the greens.

The club's signature hole is actually their 8th, at a whopping 618 yards par 5 with water on the right of the fairway and a green that is quite small.

Great place for a birdie and a photo.

Both the 9th and 18th holes end up opposite the magnificent modern-style clubhouse.

The 9th is a par 4 at 423 yards and is their 2nd hardest hole.

You tee off across the lake onto a strip of the fairway and the further up you can drive the shorter the second shot to the undulating green.

Beware of the winds

Here as on most holes if the wind is blowing it can be a beast of a hole to reach the green in two.

The hardest hole according to the scorecard is their 17th also a par 4 running alongside the other main lake.

At 445 yards depending again on the wind, your first drive needs to miss the bunker in the fairway at 232 yards.

The second shot is tricky as the fairway slopes down to the water and you need to either play up or take the risk and aim over the water to a small green.

To end the fun and games their 18th tees off over water again onto a sloping fairway.

At 581 yards you will need all your strength to reach the green in two.

There is a bunker at 252 yards in the fairway, and you still have 329 yards to the green.

So most of the Sunday golfers will play up and then go to the green.

All the facilities at Waterside are excellent, and the modern clubhouse has a large restaurant layout with additional seating overlooking the 18th green.

First-class locker rooms for men and ladies plus a large well-stocked pro shop.

The caddies all wear the standard Siam Country Club uniform of yellow and blue and are very well trained.

All in all, Siam Country Club Waterside is a very well-maintained course that can still challenge its lakes and creeks.

That said most of the information we understand from golfers, in general, is that perhaps Siam Country Club Waterside 18 holes are the easiest of the four clubs in the Siam Country Club stable.

Enjoy your visit and day out at Siam Country Club Waterside, a true country club near Pattaya Thailand.
